Grey Matter Neurosciences Appoints Josh Richmond as Vice President, Research and Development, two others to key roles

With great enthusiasm, Grey Matter Neurosciences, a medical technology company developing innovative transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) systems for use in medical devices and drug-device combinations, announced the appointment of Josh Richmond as Vice President, Research and Development.

Josh is a seasoned innovator in the medical device industry and is now embarking on his third start-up venture. Prior to joining Grey Matter, he spent 12 years at Synaptive Medical, where he led research and development and played a pivotal role in bringing over ten neurosurgical products to market. Earlier in his career, Josh contributed to the development of advanced MRI coil systems for breast cancer imaging at Sentinelle Medical, collaborating with Siemens and Toshiba platforms. He began his professional journey at Macdonald Dettwiler and Associates, where he worked on autonomous satellite servicing systems.

Josh holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.

“Josh’s expertise in developing and commercializing complex medical technologies is exactly what Grey Matter needs as we accelerate toward our next phase of innovation,” said Dr. Jeffrey Coull, Founder and CEO of Grey Matter Neurosciences. “His track record of turning bold ideas into real-world impact makes him an exceptional fit for our team and mission.”

Today the company also announced the appointments of Steven Yang as Principal Engineer and Rohan Ramdoyal as Senior Scientist.  Steven will lead the design and implementation of software and embedded systems that enable both treatment planning and treatment control. He previously spent eight years working with Dr. Kullervo Hynynen at Sunnbrook Research Institute (SRI) and further held engineering roles at AMD. He holds a MSc in Mathematics from Queen’s and a BASc from Waterloo. Rohan will oversee transducer design and simulation, drawing on experience from multiple clinical FUS devices he designed while at SRI. He holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Toronto.
